Deer Park is located in Harris County, in close proximity to Houston. Renford Thomas Simonton founded the city in 1892. It was named after the large deer population that lived in the area.

Deer Park is known as the "Birthplace of Texas". It is home to Patrick's Cabin, which was where Sam Houston took the Mexican general to sign a treaty securing Texas' independence from Mexico after his men defeated the Mexican army in the battle of San Jacinto. The city currently has a replica of the cabin that you can visit.
