West University Place is a city located in Harris County, Texas.  It has a population of approximately 15,000 and is nicknamed "The Neighborhood City."  It is 2.0 square miles in size.  West University Place is the 5th wealthiest city in Texas.  Most of the streets in West University Place are named for colleges, universities and poets throughout the world.  

West University Placed was developed by Ben Hooper in 1917 and was in incorporated in 1924.  He was a former Tennessee governor.  It's name came from its proximity to Rice University.  After 1992, West University Place changed from a nice middle class neighborhood to a wealthy community filled with "Young Urban Professionals." Eventually, the city ran out of available lots for home and construction peaked.  In 2011, it was ranked by the group "On Numbers" as the community with the highest quality of life in the Southern portion of the United States.
