Garden City is located in Wayne County, only three miles from Detroit. It is surrounded by Westland, Inkster, and Dearborn Heights. Garden City was founded as a village in June 1927 and became a city 6 years later. 

John Lathers, who was granted 160 acres of land by Andrew Jackson, was one of the first prominent white settlers in the community. 

The city was modeled after the English "garden city" concept that was popular during the 19th century. Most homes sat on lots no less than an acre, so families could plant enough fruits and vegetables to feed themselves. 

Garden City is home to the first Kmart store, which opened in 1962, and the first Little Caesars. 

We found resources in Garden City to help you with your wedding planning, including wedding venues, bridal shops, flowers, and wedding rentals. You can have your wedding at Roma Banquets, which has facilities that can host up to 600 guests. They also provide full-service catering and can custom design a menu to your taste. If you are on a budget, consider having your wedding from January to April, July, August, or November, which are non-prime months. 

In your free time you can visit the Garden City Historical Museum located at The Straight Farmhouse.
