Allen Park City is located in Wayne County. The area was once part of the Ecorse Township. The village of Allen Park was founded in 1927 and organized into a city by 1957. Allen Park is named after lawyer and landowner Lewis Allen. 

Today the city is home to the Detroit Lions, part of the Ford Motor Company, and Thunderbowl Lanes, which is one of the primary locations for the PBA World Series of Bowling. The city also features the "Uniroyal Tire" roadside attraction, which was previously a ferris wheel in the 1964 New York World's Fair. 

Allen Park was recently recognized by Money Magazine as one of "America's Best Small Cities".
