Woodhaven City, which was incorporated on December 7, 1965, is located in Wayne County. It is part of the Downriver collection of communities. The city was named after a village located in Queens, New York. 

The area was originally home to the Ottawa, Wyandot, Chippewa, and Potawatomi Native American tribes, who would use the lakes and woods for fishing and hunting. 

Woodhaven experienced a population boom in the 1930's when the Mobil Oil Company built a refinery within its boundaries. Industry soon replaced agriculture as the driving force of Woodhaven's economy. The Ford Motor Co. Stamping Plant currently generates a large part of the city's revenue.
