Trenton City

Trenton is located in Wayne County and is part of the Downriver collection of communities. It was named after a type of limestone mined from its local quarry.

Trenton was founded in 1834 by Abram Caleb Truax, who acquired a large portion of land in Michigan Territory after the War of 1812. He is responsible for the city's first church, general store, and sawmill.

The city was home to the Detroit Cleveland Steamboat Company, which made Trenton a major center for the steamboat and shipbuilding industry, like several of its neighboring communities.
