Oakland Park City is located in Broward County. The city is a little over 8 square miles and bordered by Wilton Manors.

Oakland Park was originally a small farming community. Its first school, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, opened in 1925.

The city was named "Floranada" until after the hurricane of 1926, which devastated the area. Oakland Park was incorporated under its current name in 1929.

Oakland Park is a family oriented community, which hosts annual events and activities including the Dr. Carter G. Woodson Festival, the Father's Day Fishing Tournament, the Fall-o-ween costume contest and haunted trail walk, Oktoberfest, and Moonlit Movies the last Friday of every month. The city also has active adult programs and a library.
