Cooper City is located in Broward County, about 15 miles from Fort Lauderdale.

Before Spanish and other European explorers arrived, the area was home to the Tequesta and Seminole Native Americans. Present day Cooper City was founded by Morris Cooper, a prominent businessman originally from Ukraine.

The city is primarily a family oriented residential community, with a very low crime rate. Most residents of Cooper City commute to surrounding towns for work.

The city's motto is "Someplace Special". Family Circle magazine ranked the community as one of the top 10 towns for families.
