Coconut Creek City is located in Broward County. It is bordered by Coral Springs, Margate, Deerfield Beach, and Pompano Beach. 

Coconut Creek was developed by Robert E. Bateman, who named the city for its coconut trees.

Its nickname is "Butterfly Capital of the World" because it is home to the world's largest butterfly aviary, which features over 80 species of butterflies. 

Coconut Creek is an environmentally conscious community and was recently named the 48th best small town to live in the United States by Money Magazine. The city was the 11th in the United States to be certified as a "Community Wildlife Habitat". 

Notable natives and residents include UFC fighters Thialgo Alves and Wilson Gouveia, and Bellator Middleweight Champion Hector Lombard.
