Garland is a city in Dallas County, Texas. It is to the northeast of Dallas and covers an area of 57.1 square miles. It also forms part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

Immigrants started arriving in the area in 1850. Subsequently, two towns were formed, Embree and Duck Creek. Soon after, there was rivalry between these two towns about which town was to get the local post office. A local judge Thomas Nash asked visiting congressman Joe Abbott to move the post office between the two towns.

The place where the post office was located was then called Garland. This was done in 1887. Eventually, these two towns combined to form Garland city.

There are several notable people from Garland including NBA player Mookie Blaylock and NFL cornerback Jacob Lacey.

Recently, it has grown and developed into such a fine city that it was named by CNN and Money Magazine as the number 67 best city to live in their top 100 places to live list. Episodes of Prison Break and Walker, Texas Ranger were filmed in Garland.
