Carrollton is a city that is partially in Dallas County and partially in Collin County, Texas. The city has a population of approximately 120,000 which makes it the 23rd most populated city in Texas.  Carrollton is one of Dallas' suburbs and was named by Relocate America as America's "Top 100 Places to Live" in 2006.  Carrollton is 36.3 square miles in area.  

The area that is now Carrollton was first settled in 1842 by Jared Ford and William and Mary Larner.  In the beginning Carrollton survived exclusively with agriculture.  However, after the construction of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad in 1978, the area began to grow in industry.  

Carrollton was incorporated in 1913 and W.F. Vinson was elected as the first mayor. The gravel industry that was started in 1912 changed the city and by the late 1940's into a "grain and gravel" town.  Carrollton grew rapidly after  World War II.  In 1950 there were 1,610 residents and by 1970 it had grown to 13,855.  As Dallas' suburban population began spilling out to its north, Carrollton grew tremendously.  It had growth of 193% from 1970 to present.
