Grand Prairie is a city that is located in Dallas County, Texas. The city covers a total area of about 81.1 square miles and was incorporated in 1909.

Grand Prairie was founded in 1863 and was first known as Dechman, after Alexander Dechman who traded in his oxen and wagons for land in Dallas County. The city’s growth can be attributed in part to the presence of several defense and aviation industries that started during the Second World War and some operate there to date.

Lockheed Martin and American Eurocopter are some of the aerospace, defense and security companies which are headquartered in Grand Prairie.
