Watauga City is located in Tarrant County. The land was first inhabited by the Cherokee Native Americans. "Watauga" is the Cherokee word meaning "village of many springs".

The first white settlers arrived from Tennessee in 1843. They used the area primarily for farming and ranching.

The Watauga railroad stop was moved to Hodge in 1930, stunting the community's growth. It had a population of only 50 in 1940. Due to the construction of defense plants nearby, the population grew to 1,000 by the 1960's.

Watauga has seven parks for you to enjoy in your free time. You can rent the Watauga Community Center or any of the park pavilions for small parties. 

The city is only nine miles from Fort Worth and close to attractions such as the Fort Worth Botanical Garden, the Dallas Zoo, Kimbell Art Museum, and Lake Mineral Wells State Park.
