Grand Prairie City

Grand Prairie City is a suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metropolitan area. It spans through Tarrant, Ellis, and Dallas counties. The city was incorporated in 1909.

Grand Prairie was founded under the name "Dechman" by Alexander McRae Dechman in 1863. He traded half of his property to the T&P Railroad in 1867 to guarantee that a railroad track would be laid through town. The U.S. Postal Service eventually changed the city's name to "Grand Prairie" in order to avoid confusion.

Grand Prairie's climate is considered humid subtropical. While summers are hot and humid, the winters are mild.
