Alameda is a city that is found in Alameda County, California. Adjacent to the city of Oakland, Alameda is located on the Bay Farm Island as well as on the Alameda Island.  It was incorporated in 1906 and covers a total area of about 22.9 square miles.

The city was originally a peninsula that was connected to Oakland. Back then, it was home to one of the biggest concentration of Oak forests in the world. The Spanish settled there in the 18^th century and the first Popsicle and snow cone were sold in this city.

Alameda was turned into an island by dredging which was as a result of a need for expanded shipping facilities. It is presently a popular wind and kite surfing destination. A decommissioned naval base has been a shooting location for movies like The Matrix, Mission Impossible II. The Myth Busters also often use the facility for their experiments.

Baseball player John Baker and NBA star Jason Kidd are some of the notable residents in the city.
