Gilroy City is located in Santa Clara County, California. Spanish settlers began to arrive in the 1770's. They established the Mission San Juan Bautista in 1797. The city was incorporated on March 12, 1870.

It is known as the "Garlic Capital of the World". Most minced, pickled, and powdered garlic products come from Gilroy. During the last full weekend in July, Gilroy hosts the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival, which features garlicky foods such as garlic ice cream. The city is also known for its numerous wineries along the Gilroy Wine Trail. 

Notable natives include Jazz singer Ivie Anderson, former quarterback Jeff Garcia, and professional boxer Robert Guerrero.
