Santa Clara is a city that is located in Santa Clara County, California. The city of Santa Clara is located at the center of the Silicon Valley, and it covers a total area of about 18.4 square miles. It borders San Jose, Cupertino and Sunnyvale cities.

The first Europeans arrived in Santa Clara in 1769.  However, the city was founded in 1777 and incorporated in 1852. The economy was largely agricultural back then, and it was not until the technology boom that the city developed to become home to the many technology heavyweights currently in operation there.

The city is home to the headquarters of Intel, Agilent Technologies as well as Applied Materials just to name a few. It is also home to Santa Clara University, which is the oldest institution of higher learning in California. Other companies such as Omnivision, McAfee, Nvidia and Namco Bandai Games have offices located in the city.
