Hesperia is a city that is located in San Bernardino County, California with a population of roughly 91,000 residents.  It is located 15 miles north of San Bernardino in the Mojave Desert and is 73.2 square miles in size.  

Hesperia began as a Spanish land grant and was founded in 1781.  The site for the town was laid out in 1891 with projections to have over 100,000 residents by the year 1900.  However, only 1,000 moved in.  Hesperia grew slowly until completion of 4 major highways in the late 1960's.  

There was a total of 30 square miles set aside for residential development, but very few houses were built until the 1980's when a wave of newcomers arrived in Hesperia.  The resulting growth was to transform the small town with 5,000 residents in 1970 to a decent sized community of more than 60,000 residents by the year 2000.

Be sure to take a bit of time out of your hectic schedule to visit the Radio Control Model Aircraft Park just south of The Hesperia Lake.   It is open on a daily basis, admission is free and the general public is welcome.
