Escondido means "hidden" in Spanish. It was founded in 1888 and is one of the oldest cities in San Diego County. The area was first inhabited by the Luiseno tribe.

From the mid 18th century to the early 19th century, Spain controlled the area and opened numerous missions in order to convert the native people. When Mexico established their independence from Spain, they divided the land into ranchos. Most of the land in present day Escondido was part of the former Rancho Rincon del Diablo.

Escondido was an agricultural community that grew grapes, oranges, lemons, and olive and walnut trees. Avocados were the primary crop through the 1960's. Today the city is mainly residential and commercial.

Escondido has a Mediterranean climate, which makes it perfect for a wedding. It gets approximately 15 inches of rain annually. Keep in mind that 80% of the precipitation occurs from November through March.
