Carlsbad is a city located in San Diego County, California. This affluent city covers an area of 39.1 square miles and has about 7 miles of coastline. This coastal resort city is located along the Pacific Ocean, about 35 miles to the North of downtown San Diego. Carlsbad is named after Bohemian town Karlsbad.

In the 1880s, a sailor by the name of John Frazier dug a well in the area and started to sell water at the train station. Another well was dug and tests done on it showed that it had a chemical similarity to some of the most renowned spas in the world.

Carlsbad Land and Mineral Water Company was formed thereafter to take advantage of this amazing find. The city experienced rapid growth after that as people started to put up homes and businesses.

Notable people from Carlsbad include film and television actor Adam Brody as well as baseball player Troy Glaus just to name a few.

Presently, Carlsbad is an affluent city that is home to many big corporations. Some of the businesses headquartered in the city include but are not limited to Satellite Communications firm ViaSat, Inc. and apparel company No Fear.

Carlsbad forms a tri-city area together with Southern Oceanside, Western Vista as well as Northern Carlsbad.
