National City is a city located in San Diego County, California and has a population of approximately 58,500 and growing.  It is the second oldest city in San Diego County and it comes with an historic past.  National City is 9.1 square miles in total area.

For many thousands of years, the Kumeyaay lived peacefully and prospered in the area's moderate climate.  The area that is now National City was part of the Kumeyaay's ancestral territory.  

National City was incorporated on September 17, 1887 and is the second oldest city in San Diego County.  It was originally a part of the 26,000 acre El Rancho de la Nacion, purchased by Frank Kimball and his brothers Warren and Levi in 1868.  The brothers were responsible for constructing the city's first wharf and bringing the railroad to National City.
