Miami Lakes Town is one of the youngest cities in Miami-Dade County. It is 6.4 square miles. The city was incorporated on December 5, 2000.

Construction of Miami Lakes began on the Graham family dairy farm in 1962. The city was master planned by Lester Collins and designed with man-made lakes, tree groves, and walkable streets.. It was originally meant to be a 30 year project, but development is still ongoing. 

Miami Lakes has 23 lakes and numerous parks. A large portion of the city, primarily developed with apartment buildings, shopping centers, and office buildings, is still owned by the Graham family. Some of the area is still used for raising dairy cows.
