Sweetwater is a suburb of Miami which is located in Miami-Dade County, Florida.  It has a population of approximately 14,000.  Sweetwater is knows as "Little Manague" because it has the highest concentration of Nicaraguans and Nicaraguan Americans in the United States.  

Sweetwater was only 0.8 square miles in total area until it annexed some additional areas which included the area where Dolphin Mall sits. With the annexation of these areas, Sweetwater tripled its size.   

Sweetwater was founded in the 1920's when the Miami-Pittsburgh Land Company purchased the land.  However, the Miami Hurricane of 1926 along with the subsequent real estate bust in South Florida put an abrupt halt to the development.   

Clyde Andrews purchased most of the original land in 1938 and began marketing lots.   A troupe of Russian dwarfs who were looking to retire from the circus were among some of his buyers.  The group a built min-scaled home specifically suited to their needs. After that Sweetwater was known as the "midget" community for many years. Sweetwater was incorporated in 1941 and it's first mayor was Joe Sanderlin who was the midget's guardian and manager.   

Sweetwater is a great place to plan a wedding.  There are many shopping centers where you can shop for all your wedding supplies.  There are many wedding venues to choose from in Sweetwater.  The Big Five Club is one of the premier wedding venues in Sweetwater.  However, if your wedding planning is on a budget, you can check with the Parks and Recreation Department.  Ronselli Park has a brand new building available for rentals on the weekend for very reasonable prices.  Of course, a wedding wouldn't be complete without some great food.  Miami Q Catering can provide you with a great selection for your wedding reception.
