Hialeah, which means "pretty hill" in Muskogee, is located in Miami-Dade County. The city is situated on a prairie between Biscayne Bay and the Everglades. It is the sixth largest city in Florida, and the tenth largest nationally. 

Hialeah was incorporated in 1925. In the 1920's, the city was a center for sports and entertainment, including greyhound racing, silent movies, and the Hialeah Park Race Track. The track hosted guests such as Harry Truman, Winston Churchhill, J.P. Morgan, and the Kennedy family, and is recognized by the National Register of Historic Places as an Audubon Bird Sanctuary.

Hialeah has the largest concentration of Cuban-Americans in the United States. Notable natives and residents include CNN anchor Rick Sanchez and Grammy winner Jon Secada.
