Homestead City is located in Miami-Dade County, about 35 miles from Miami. It is 14.4 square miles. The city is situated between the Everglades and Biscayne National Park. 

Homestead's name originates from the nickname, "Homestead Country", which was bestowed on the area by construction workers who were getting the land ready for homesteading. 

The city is home to Fruit & Spice Park, which has over 500 types of vegetables, fruits, herbs, spices, nuts, and exotic edibles. The climate is considered tropical monsoon, which means summers are hot and humid. Winters are mild, but there are occasional cold fronts from November to March.
