Opa-Locka is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida with a population of approximately 15,300 residents.  The city is 4.5 square miles in total area and is in the northeastern portion of Miami-Dade County.  

Opa-Locka was founded and developed by Glenn Curtiss in 1926.  It was built with a theme based on One Thousand and One Nights with street names such as Ali Baba Avenue, Sultan Avenue and Sabur Lane.  The city has the most extensive collection of Moorish Revival architecture anywhere in the Western hemisphere.   Even though the Miami hurricane of 1926 damaged the city badly, many of the Moorish style building survived.  

Amelia Earhart began her historic trip just south of Opa-Locka at the Miami Municipal Airport.  

Opa-Locka has 244 sunny days per year which makes it an excellent choice for an outdoor wedding. However, it does average 66 inches of rain per year, so you will want to keep that in mind as well and make backup plans when you are doing your wedding planning.
