Aventura is a suburban, planned city that is in Miami-Dade County, Florida with a population of approximately 36,000 residents.  The city's name comes from the Spanish word for adventure.  It was given the name Aventura after one of the original developers remarked "What an adventure this is going to be."  Aventura is 3.5 square miles in total area.  

The development of Aventura began in the early 1970's and the area was originally called Turnberry.  The city was incorporated in 1995 and its police department was formed in 1997.  

Aventura is home to the Aventura Mall which is the fifth largest mall in the United States.  It is also home to Turnberry Isle, a luxury resort. Former President Bill Clinton gave one of his very first speeches after leaving the White House in early 2001 at the Aventura-Turnberry Jewish Center.
