Key Biscayne Village

Key Biscayne is a small town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida with a population of approximately 12,500 residents.   It is situated south of Miami Beach and east of Miami.  Key Biscayne is connected to Miami by the Rickenbacker Causeway which was originally build in 1947.  A downside of living in Key Biscayne is that because of its direct exposure to the Atlantic Ocean and low elevation, it is generally among the first areas in Miami to be evacuated when there is an impending hurricane.  The village is 1.4 square miles in total area.

While many attempts had been made to develop Key Biscayne, it really didn't take off until the Rickenbacker Causeway was opened in 1947.  This opened up the island to residential development on a large scale.

In 1969, to be close to his friend and confidant, Bebe Rebozo, President Richard Nixon purchased the first of three waterfront homes which formed a compound that came to be known as the Florida White House.  As the Watergate scandal unfolded, Nixon visited the area more than 50 times between 1969 and 1973.  A helicopter pad was constructed adjacent to the Florida White House compound and Nixon was accused of enriching himself at the expense of the taxpayers when he sold the property.

When the eye wall of Hurricane Andrew passed over the Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in 1992, some of the homes and businesses in Key Biscayne were flooded but the park received the brunt of the storm.  However, the damage from the storm was a blessing because it destroyed all the non-native vegetation that had crept into the park and which the state had been trying unsuccessfully to eradicate.

Key Biscayne is sought out for destination weddings by many couples.  There are numerous venues, both indoors and outdoors, to host a spectacular event.  The Ocean Club is one of the exceptional wedding venues in the area.  They will give you personalized service to make sure your day is perfect.  One of the most unique shops in the area is The Island Shop.  You can take advantage of their bridal registry or choose unique bridal party gifts.  Dawn Sorokin-Tschupp Photography is a good choice for capturing every aspect of your wedding day.
