Miami Beach is a city located in Miami Dade County, Florida. It is a resort city that covers an area of about 18.7 square miles. Since the early 20^th century, Miami Beach has been one of the United State’s pre-eminent beach resorts.

The city owes much of its existence to entrepreneurs who came together to create a resort city. These were John Collins, Carl Fisher and the Lummus Brothers. They built much of the city as landfill through dredging of Biscayne Bay. Carl Fisher promoted it as a place for wealthy industrialists to build their winter homes.

The town was incorporated in 1915 and grew rapidly to become a city two years later. It presently has a sizeable Jewish population.

Miami Beach has been and still is associated with many notable people. These people have either lived in Miami Beach or own homes there. They include James Cash Penney, the founder of J C Penney, Albert Warner, one of the founders of Warner Bros. Studios, Singer Gloria Estefan as well as actress and musician Jennifer Lopez just to name a few.
