La Quinta City is located in Riverside County, and is situated in the Coachella Valley. It was incorporated in 1982.

La Quinta is a resort community, which is known as one of the top golf destinations in the United States. It is home to the historic La Quinta Resort and Club, The Quarry at La Quinta, and the SilverRock Golf Resort, which hosts the annual Bob Hope Chrysler Classic PGA golf tournament. 

The town originated from La Quinta Resort, which was established by Walter Morgan in 1926. The resort was a well-loved getaway for Hollywood celebrities and socialites. It was mainly a part-time community until the 1990's.
