Costa Mesa is a city located in Orange County, California. This city covers an area of 15.7 square miles and has about 109,000 people.

Costa Mesa emerged in the late 1800s and was called Harper at the time. It was renamed Costa Mesa in 1920 and experienced a period of growth just after World War II when war veterans returned with their families.

The city has since undergone transformations from a small, semi rural farming town to a suburban city whose economy depends on light manufacturing, commerce and retail businesses.

Notable residents in this city include Mitchell Hurwitz, the creator of television sitcom Arrested Development as well as co-creator of The Ellen Show. The other notable resident is two time Olympic gold medalist in volleyball, Misty May Treanor.
