Western Springs Village is located in Cook County and is situated on both prairie and swamp land. The village is named for the natural mineral springs in the southwestern corner of town.

Joseph Vial was one of the first white settlers in Western Springs. His cabin served as a hotel, stagecoach station, general store, and post office.  Many of the early settlers in Western Springs were Quakers. The population became more diverse after the completion of railroad lines, which encouraged commuters to move into the area.

Western Springs is home to a famous water tower, which is made from Naperville stone. The tower was made into a museum in 1970, and is currently on the National Register of Historic Places.
