Hanover Park is located in both Cook and DuPage Counties. It is 6.8 square miles. Today the two counties are separated by the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway.
The village was originally called Ontarioville. One of the first settlers was Edwin Bartlett, who arrived in 1874. The DuPage side of Hanover Park developed more quickly than the Cook County side. The village was taken off the train schedule in 1955 due to a low number of residents using the depot.
Hanover Park incorporated in 1958 and formed its own realty firm, Hanover Builders, in order to encourage growth and prevent annexation by Streamwood.
