South Chicago Heights Village is located 28 miles from the Chicago Loop, in Cook County. It is 1.5 square miles. The village grew alongside Sauk and Hubbard's Trails. It is surrounded by Chicago Heights, Steger, and the Cook County Forest Preserve.
Early settlers were from Italian, Polish, and German descent. One of the first couples to settle the area, Adam and Phoebe Brown, opened a general store at the intersection between the two trails. The general store was a stop on the Underground Railroad and remained in the family for 70 years. The intersection came to be known as "Brown's Corner".
