Oak Park Village is located in Cook County, with easy access to downtown Chicago. It was formally established in 1902 after it broke off from Cicero. When Oak Park was incorporated, there was a ban on selling alcohol within city limits. Restaurants and hotels began to serve alcohol in 1973. In 2002, select grocery stores were granted permission to sell liquor.
Oak Park has an excellent public transportation system that includes the Chicago 'L' green and blue lines, Metra commuter rail, and MTA buses. With its close proximity to the city, it attracts many legal, health-care, and university professionals.
