East Dundee Village is located in Kane County, with a small portion being in Cook County. It was founded in 1837 by Thomas Deweese, who built the first gristmill and bridge in East Dundee. The village was incorporated in 1871.
In the 1850's a large German immigrant population moved to the area. Today the village is 94% white, with the rest being of Hispanic descent.
Early industries in East Dundee included dairy production, brick making, and manufacturing teaware, crystal, and Royal Hickman glassware. East Dundee is currently home to Haeger Potteries, which was started by prominent businessman D.H Haeger.
