Skokie Village, whose name means "fire" in a Native American tongue, is located in Cook County. The city is 10 square miles and surrounded by Evanston, Chicago, Glenview, and Wilmette. Skokie was incorporated in 1888 under the name Niles Centre, but the name caused confusion at the post office and the city was renamed in 1940.

It was originally a German farming community, but after World War II, attracted a large Jewish population. At one time over 40% of the population was Jewish, but it has since become a more diverse community.
Skokie is the recent winner of the "Gold Medal for Excellence" in parks and recreation. It has over 240 acres of maintained parkland.
Skokie has all the resources you need to plan a wedding. We found vendors for different types of wedding cakes, venues, and wedding flowers. You can order a custom wedding cake from Sweety Pies Bakery and have your reception at the Doubletree Hilton rooftop ballroom, which features breathtaking views of the city.
Make sure to visit the Skokie Heritage Museum, Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, or the sculpture garden on McCormick Boulevard. The Exploritorium is a great activity for your out of town guests with children. It features wall climbing, a water play area, trains, and a costumed make believe station.
