Bellwood Village is located in Cook County. It is 2.4 square miles, and surrounded by Maywood, Hillside, and Berkley. The city was incorporated on May 21, 1900.

Bellwood is a residential community, but has also developed a strong manufacturing base. It was mainly farmland until the 1890's when several businesses and taverns were attracted to the area. Many of the first residents were German and Russian immigrants.
Notable natives of Bellwood include NASA astronauts Eugene Cernan, who was the last man to set foot on the moon, and Lee J. Archambault.
