Oak Lawn Village is located in Cook County and is 8.6 square miles. It was incorporated in 1909. The city had a large population explosion when the veterans returned after World War II, and began an annual Western themed celebration in 1949, known as "Round-Up Days", to help promote the village. 

Oak Lawn's peak years were from 1973 to 1976, but due to an aging and decreasing population in the 1980's, several businesses and schools closed.

Oak Lawn Village is currently known for its community hospital, which has a top of the line, level 1 trauma center. It treats more patients than any other hospital in the state.
