The Native Americans were the original inhabitants, but they were expelled during the Black Hawk War of 1832. Early white settlers were primarily Irish and German immigrants, who came after the building of the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Today over 50% of the population in Palos Hills is descended from Irish, Polish, and German immigrants.
