Dolton Village is located in Cook County and is surrounded by Chicago, South Holland, Riverdale, and Calumet. The area was originally home to the Miami and Illinois Native Americans.
Dolton was named after George Dolton, one of the first white settlers. He opened a ferry across the Calumet River that he and Vincent Matthews operated until a bridge was built in 1856.
