Hoffman Estates Village is located primarily in Cook County, but a small section of the city is in Kane County. It is 19.9 square miles with an estimated population of approximately 50,000.

The land was originally bought by farmers Sam and Jack Hoffman in 1954. It was incorporated on September 19, 1959.

In the late 1980's, Hoffman Estates began to grow from being a residential community to a more commercial city. Sears Holdings Corporation, Claire's, Career Education Corporation, Amcol, and the Midwest headquarters for AT&T are all currently headquartered in Hoffman Estates.
