Schiller Park Village is located in Cook County, only 13 miles west from the Chicago Loop. The area was initially used for farming, hunting, and trapping wild game. Early settler William Kolze built his house in 1881. He served from his house, also known as the White House, as honorary mayor of the village.
The village, which was originally called Kolze, was incorporated in 1914 and re-named Schiller Park in 1926. The population largely consisted of Polish, Irish, Italian, and German immigrants.
The area was a popular spot for Chicago residents. They could hike along the Des Plaines River, visit dance pavilions and saloons, and relax in picnic groves. Schiller Park currently has seven parks, a water park, and a recreation center.
