Des Plaines City is located in Cook County and is nicknamed "City of Destiny". It was incorporated in 1869. The area was originally home to the Potawatomi, Chippewa, and Ottawa Native American tribes. The first foreign settlers came from the eastern United States in 1833 and were followed by German immigrants in the 1840's.
